July 2024: Latrobe City Council is proposing to sell ‘vacant’ land that includes habitat known to be utilised by koala’s and other wildlife, on Mountain Glen Drive in Moe, located directly beside the freeway entry heading west. This patch of habitat acts as a very important refuge and corridor for wildlife in an area where there is already significant habitat fragmentation that inhibits the ability of wildlife to move safely and freely within the environment. We have answered and attended multiple calls over the years regarding displaced and vehicle hit koalas in this very spot! The vegetation on this land is largely manna gum, which is a preferred feeding tree of our local koalas. If this land is sold for development the habitat that is there will be destroyed and wildlife will have nowhere to go.
